In this article, I am ranking every team's draft haul from the first 4 rounds of our entry draft. Why just the first 4 rounds? 1. Ive been working on this for awhile and 2. I dont feel comfortable saying a late 5th round pick is a better pick than another late 5th round pick so there ya go.
Remember, this is just my opinion and you probably did much more research than me on your draft picks. If I seem to be underrating or overrating someone in your eyes, just view it as negligence and not maliciousness. Without further ado, we start at #32.
#32 Tampa Bay Lightning
Tampa Bay did not hold any picks in the first 4 rounds.
#31 Dallas Stars
Dallas did not hold any picks in the first 4 rounds.
#30 San Jose Sharks
San Jose did not hold any picks in the first 4 rounds.
#29 Anaheim Ducks
Anaheim did not hold any picks in the first 4 rounds.
#28 Nashville Predators
Nashville had 1 pick in the first four rounds selecting Amadeus Lombardi at pick 4.17. Lombardi may be a great pick at this range but only making one pick puts Hextalls at #28.
#27 Edmonton Oilers
Edmonton made 2 picks in the 4th round selecting Michael Milne at 4.3 and Matthew Seminoff at 4.29. Two is better than one, right?
#26 Minnesota Wild
Minnesota only made one pick but it was selecting Isaiah George at 3.32. I like George and at least Melly had a pick before the 4th!
#25 Pittsburgh Penguins
Pittsburgh selected Ludwig Persson at pick 3.25 and Kenny Connors at 4.14. While these are not huge additions, they add some nice prospect depth for Pittsburgh.
#24 Colorado Avalanche
Colorado made 3 picks, the biggest being Adam Sykora in the middle of the 2nd round. Completely without bias, Sykora may be the best player in the draft.
#23 St. Louis Blues
St. Louis only made 3 picks but one being Pavel Mintyukov in the 1st round puts him in front of everyone else so far. Mintyukov is the highest rated prospect named so far.
#22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Despite only making 2 picks, I was a big fan of both so Ray settles in at #22. Geekie is a guy who should fill our leagues periphs pretty well with some upside. Langlois is a real gym rat, lunch pale kind of guy. The kind of guy who is the first guy in and the last guy out. Big fan of what Toronto did with their picks.
#21 Carolina Hurricanes
I wish I could put Carolina higher. Jiri Kulich is already looking like a steal int he late 1st round, Julian Lutz in the back of round 2 is a solid pick, and any guy names Otto Salin is a helluva pick in the end of round 4.
#20 Los Angeles Kings
At 1.19 Los Angeles took Ivan Miroshnichenko. Albeit a risky pick due to everything currently going on in Russia, his upside is totally worth a mid-late first. Cameron Lund is a legit prospect and he helped the Kings land in the top 20 draft hauls.
#19 Washington Capitals
Washington was one of the few teams who had not made any 2022 draft pick trades. Lane Hutson is a high ceiling scoring threat and I oike taking goalie Niklas Kokko in the 2nd round. He could very well end up being the top goalie in the draft.
#18 Calgary Flames
Calgary is one of the few teams where I was a fan of every player he drafted. Isaac Howard at 1.26 is good value along with Fraser Minten at 2.26. Ryan Greene is a center who can help out in all cats down the line. Elias Pettersson must be good because he's on Vancouver and names Elias Pettersson.
#17 New York Rangers
I wanted to put the Rangers higher. While only making 2 picks, Kakko made the most of it by selecting Owen Beck at 1.28. Beck should be an elite FOW provider and hes just solid. Think of the Ryan Lindgren of centers but with more scoring upside. At 2.15 is the high upside guy in Jordan Dumais. PNHLe believers unite!
#16 Chicago Blackhawks
It was tough putting Chicago this low as Matthew Savoie at 1.6, Mats Lindgren at 3.6, and Miko Matikka at 4.11 are all great picks. However, the teams in front of him got better hauls overall and im not ranking value picks! Good draft Deckie.
#15 Buffalo Sabres
Buffalo added a top 10 pick in Frank Nazar and got one of my favorite 2nd rounders in Ryan Chesley. Hildeby and Thompson forced me to sneak Buffalo over Chicago. Love both of these drafts.
#14 Boston Bruins
Here is our first big haul. Kirby made seven picks in 4 rounds. Lian Bichsel at 1.22 is the headliner but dont sleep on guys like Dmitri Buchelnikov and Simon Forsmark. Overall the depth of this Boston draft class puts Kirby above the rest so far.
#13 Vancouver Canucks
Vancouver drafted a class full of talent. From Denton Mateychuk to Viktor Neuchev to Tomas Hamara, Sean covered all of his bases. Not even mentioning Maximillion Kilpinen and Tyson Jugnauth. I mean, c'mon, can you really see a guy named Tyson Jugnauth NOT becoming a periphs beast? I cant.
#12 New York Islanders
The New York Islanders may have only made 5 picks but I really like the draft class. Brad Lambert fell in the NHL draft but I still like the upside. Both 2nd rounders Seamus Casey and Calle Odelius are prospects I like, and Adam Ingram is a very solid G prospect. I like it.
#11 Florida Panthers
Debated Florida over the last couple but the 1st round duo of Liam Ohgren and Jimmy Snuggerud was the best so far along with adding Alexander Suzdalev at 2.25. I also thought it was cool that all 3 4th round picks made by Devin, Oskar Pettersson, Tucker Robertson, and Samuel Jonsson all have last names that end in "son".
#10 Detroit Red Wings
Nathan Gaucher and Filip Mesar headline Detroit's draft class and I really like the picks of Topias Leinonen and Tristan Luneau in the 2nd round as well.
#9 Philadephia Flyers
The Flyers only made 4 picks but one of them was David Jiricek. I love Kiricek and think he will be a fantasy stud. Adding David Goyette and Elias Salomonsson as well makes this a top 10 draft haul.
#8 New Jersey Devils
The obvious big fish of this draft class is Juraj Slafkovsky who went #1 in real life. My only concern with this draft class is the lack of depth. I am a fan of Luca Del Bel Belluz but after him, theres a bit of drop off. Still got a top prospect and a very solid D man out of this class which lands the Devils in the top 10.
#7 Vegas Golden Knights
Our neighborhood prospect guru made the most of his 2 first rounders selecting Noah Ostlund at 1.16 which is great value and Sam Rinzel at 1.32. However, the pick that made me see this haul as top 10 in the league is the pick of Mattias Havelid, a strong offensive D man.
#6 Winnipeg Jets
This draft haul is nuts! I love Marco Kasper at 1.14, Jagger Firkus at 1.29, and Noah Warren at 2.30. Im surprised Winnipeg is this low and it speaks to how good the rest of the draft hauls are, but I could very well see this ending up a top 5 draft haul.
#5 Seattle Kraken
Seattle only made three picks but they are three very strong picks. Simon Nemec is likely the best d man in the draft, Filip Bystedt is a very good pick in the early 2nd round and Gavin Hayes is a legit prospect. In terms of draft hauls, I could see a couple other teams being above Seattle but my love for Nemec puts Seattle just outside the top 5.
#4 Columbus Blue Jackets
Alright so these top 4 teams are in a tier of their own. Columbus selected Jonathan Lekkerimaki at 1.10, a high upside scoring F who tore up the World Juniors last year. Two picks later, Columbus added one of the best offensive d men in the draft in Kevin Korchinski. Reid Schaefer and Maverik Lamoureux are both legit 2nd round prospects.
#3 Ottawa Senators
As far as top end talent goes, Ottawa may have been my favorite class. Shane Wright went at 1.01 and then was followed up at 1.08 by Joakim Kemell. I like the depth in Ty Nelson, Matthew Poitras, and Paul Ludwinski but Ottawa fell as the depth wasnt as great as the top two.
#2 Arizona Coyotes
The Coyotes had three 1st round picks where they took Logan Cooley at 1.03, just like their real life counterparts, Danila Yurov at 1.11 and Gleb Trikozov at 1.25. In the later rounds, Arizona drafted multiple goalies to fill in that pipeline along with several prospects I really like such as Devin Kaplan, Jani Nyman, Artyom Duda and Maxim Mayorov just to name a few.
#1 Montreal Canadiens
Montreal took Cutter Gauthier at 1.07, Rutger McGroarty at 1.21, then had three 2nd round picks in Owen Pickering (2.01), Dylan James (2.11) and Jack Hughes (2.13). He then added five more players in rounds 3 and 4 combined. This class has the high end talent, and the depth. Absolutely amazing class.
